The book also contains a chapter devoted to pilgrimage in which he cites three different opinions related to it: 1. Pilgrimage is not necessary at all; 2. Pilgrimage is recommended; 3. He also gives aspects of the rites performed at these holy cities, such as Mut’a, Tawaf and Hajj. Muḥammid Ḥasan Shīrāzī has written a supplementary booklet called Ziyārat Nahiyah-e-Aalim (The Urdu version of this is entitled Ziyarat Nahiya Aalim) that includes a section on the virtues and merits of visiting graves. The author summarizes the qualities and characteristics of those who visit graves and how to differentiate between good and evil people. These qualities are: piety, purity, cleanliness, serenity, refinement, modesty and sanctity. He also provides us with information about visiting graves of great people like Rasulullah (peace be upon him), Sultans and Prophets. He also gives the different rites performed at these shrines. The author stresses the necessity of making pilgrimages to holy places for individuals as well as for entire nations. He asserts that it is an obligation for all Muslims to make pilgrimages because it is required of them by their religion. The book contains a chapter devoted to pilgrimage that contains three points related to it: 1. There are conditions that have to be met before traveling to Mecca or Medina; 2. The rites performed are different in Mecca and Medina; 3. The rites performed in the name of other than Rasulullah (peace be upon him) are invalid, while those performed in his name are valid. Muḥammid Ḥasan Shīrāzī has written another book entitled Ziyarat Tahawiah. The author has summarized the various rites that could be performed in different countries where many nations live. He has also described the rites to be performed at holy sites in Syria, Iraq, Egypt and Palestine.
